On 7 July 2017 at 14:13 UTC the RCC Münster got an EPIRB alert from MCC Toulouse.
The crew of a sailing ship about 500 NM east of Florida had activated an EPIRB.
After the first contact with Maritime RCC DGzRS at Bremen, they started a search with a first contact on the Satellite Phone.
There were two persons, a 68 year old owner and his 48 year old son on board of the ship threatening to sink.
During the time that followed, the German MRCC DGzRS was in contact with the RCC Miami.
The US Coast Guard started a rescue mission.
At 17:36 UTC the telephone contact was lost and the US Coast Guard informed the German MRCC that the estimated arrival time over the rescue area would be at 20:00 UTC.
Throughout the whole time Germany got changing positions of the EPIRB from Cospas-Sarsat via our MCC in Toulouse.
At 21:00 UTC the US Coast Guard arrived at the 2 survivors’ location and rescued them.
A Singaporean container ship was also nearby and motored a small boat toward the victims.
