The Australians who were en route to Indonesia lost their mast, then suffered engine failure in rough weather and set off their 406 beacon late Sunday night.

AMSA received the 406 signal and also had radio communication, tasked a search and rescue jet to look for them, and put out a call to nearby ships for assistance.

The Singaporean cargo ship crew found them early Monday morning and were praised for their efforts in rescuing the two stranded sailors.
