On 23 September 2020, in the early morning, the Toulouse FMCC distributed a distress message from a Cospas-Sarsat PLB to the Gris-Nez MRCC for a sailboat crossing the Suez Canal.
The MRCC contacted the applicant who requested towing assistance in poor weather.
Contacted by Gris-Nez MRCC, JRCC CAIRO (Egypt) took over the coordination of the operation and dispatched a rescue vessel to the area. The skipper was recovered a few hours later.
The sailboat sank during the towing operation due to the bad weather conditions.
The skipper was dropped off safe and sound at the end of the morning at the port by MARSA SALMAT.
