A 72 year old man borrowed a PLB and wandered far off trail while hiking the Tararua Ranges in the North Island of New Zealand, where he was found and rescued by the RCCNZ team and Jason Diedrich’s team at Amalgamated Helicopters.
Without the borrowed PLB, he most likely would not have been found.
He expressed his gratitude for their professionalism and the reassuring way they kept his friends informed every step of the way.
“I am pleased that I took the PLB with me, because without it I would have been in much more serious trouble and been the cause of a major search and rescue operation. But that’s only technology. It’s people such as you and your team who make it work.”
