JRCC Australia received a detection of a GPS-enabled distress beacon in the Mornington Peninsular region of Victoria.
A rescue helicopter and two volunteer boats were tasked and upon arrival located an upturned boat with two survivors.
The helicopter then winched them to safety about an hour after the first detection of the beacon and confirmed that they were uninjured.
The beacon’s GPS meant that a location was provided to the JRCC sooner, resulting in a more timely rescue.
