2019-07-10 Bailing out dinghy with ice-cream container, rescuers respond to family’s 406 beacon

The family struggled to get into the dinghy as their charter boat burned.

“Getting off the big boat into the little boat was the hardest part of all,”

“[it was a case of] just hang on and look for that chopper in the sky.”

The dinghy soon took on water and the family tried bailing it out with a two-litre ice-cream bucket, but the dinghy took on too much water and rolled.

A rescue helicopter had been called off when the family had reached the dinghy, but was called back fifteen minutes later.
