The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency issued a statement about several incidents of people missing at sea and in jungles indicating the importance of using Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) to assist SAR operations.
They note that in developed countries the use of a PLB has become a must for extreme sport enthusiasts.
The agency encourages individuals wishing to obtain a PLB emergency device in Malaysia to purchase devices using the Malaysian code 533 for easier detection by rescue teams in the event of distress.
