A 406 EPIRB alert was received at 11:23 UTC 15 December from an automatic EPIRB that had been activated and was the only method of distress alerting following a severe explosion aboard a crabbing vessel 17 NM north of Cromer, UK in the North Sea.
A coast guard helicopter was launched as well as a lifeboat from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
Assets homed in on the 121.5 signal and found the beacon and crew, and all 7 were successfully rescued and alive.
