Two fishermen struggled in the dark for four and a half hours before deciding to try retrieving their EPIRB from the overturned boat.
There had been warnings to stay out of the water due to rough conditions, and the men were not wearing their lifejackets.
Within 45 minutes, an ambulance helicopter spotted the pair and treated them for hypothermia.
