RCC Australia detected the signal from an emergency PLB rented by a group of hikers, who got turned around in a blizzard in New South Wales’ Snowy Mountains.
The rescue coordination was passed to the local police who organized a ground response as the Melbourne Dornier helicopter tasked could not reach them.
One hiker left for help and walked back to town, and the rest were found in good health but suffering from exposure and possibly hypothermia.
